SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH ACT CLEAN

Waste To
Manure

Our collaborative efforts with EDMC & CII, with ‘Waste to Manure,’ a showcase project of decentralized Waste Management to make Trilokpuri in Delhi swachh, has yielded desired result.

It is a first of its kind pilot project based on PPP model conducive to create and sustain an environment of shared responsibility of citizens along with the State to manage municipal waste. The project to convert Household Waste-into-Compost, our first mega-project in a residential area involving local residents, local leaders and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), is going full steam for almost a year now.

THIS PROJECT IS AN ANSWER TO STOP WASTE FROM GOING TO LANDFILL BY CONVERSION TO MANURE (COMPOST)

In over a period of eight months, from conceptualization to execution, this project underwent many stages from awareness generation & educating the households, segregation of waste at source, distribution of blue and green bins, door to door collection of waste, conversion of wet waste to manure and regular monitoring and hand-holding.

As more and more households expressed to participate in this project, there arose an urgent need to upscale the operation. To meet the increasing demand, EDMC has installed a 1 ton Mechanical Composter, which will enable EDMC to extend the Project benefits to another 2000 households in Trilokpuri. With this EDMC would have about 5500 households segregating their waste at source.

THE BENEFITS CONCEALED IN IMPLEMENTING THIS PROJECT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSE IS FAR GREATER FOR WHAT THE RESOURCES ARE WORTH

Now Trilokpuri has
a different look —
all cleaned up!

When this waste management model can be successfully implemented in a low-income settlement like Trilokpuri, it can be, and should be replicated in other parts of the city.
