SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH EMOTIONAL WELLNESS

Menstruation is a normal and healthy biological process for girls. Yet, it is a topic that people are embarrassed to talk about, and is treated as something shameful or dirty. Stigma, taboos and myths prevent adolescent girls from the opportunity to learn about menstruation and develop healthy habits.

WE BELIEVE that it is imperative to make girls aware of the science behind menstruation, which can help prevent any kind of pelvic inflammatory diseases and infections and to remove all the taboos and myths about periods.

Menstrual Health Workshops

Sleepwell Foundation conducted a Menstrual Health & Hygiene Workshop at Km Mayawati Government Girls Inter College, Badalpur for 78 students of Classes 6 and 7, held on 6 November 2025. The aim of the workshop was to build awareness about menstruation, personal hygiene, and the emotional and physical changes of puberty. The session began with an ice-breaking activity that encouraged students to share their existing knowledge. A mother–daughter role play helped normalize first-period conversations and highlighted essential hygiene practices.

Trainers explained puberty, discussed changes in both boys and girls, and addressed common myths through a “Myths vs. Facts” segment, reinforcing that menstruation is natural and not a source of shame. Students also learned practical hygiene tips, including the importance of clean sanitary products and regular changing. A quiz-based card game further strengthened learning in an engaging manner.

Students participated enthusiastically, asking thoughtful questions, while the school staff offered full support. The workshop successfully promoted awareness, confidence, and healthy communication about menstrual health.
