A workshop on “Proactive Emotional Wellness & Emotional First-Aid” was organized by the Sleepwell Foundation at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, University of Delhi, on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, with the participation of 283 undergraduate students. The session was facilitated by Ms. Suminder Kaur and Ms. Neelam Agarwal and marked the Foundation’s 25 years of commitment to well-being and social impact. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about emotional wellness, help students recognize and understand their emotions, and equip them with practical strategies to manage emotional distress. It emphasized acknowledging emotions, adopting healthy coping mechanisms, building emotional resilience, and seeking professional support whenever required.

The workshop included interactive activities and discussions to help participants understand the importance of emotional wellness. Through emotional reflection exercises and the introduction of Dr. Gloria Willcox’s Feeling Wheel, students learned to identify, label, and understand their emotions more effectively. The facilitators discussed unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as denial, blaming others, overthinking, and emotional suppression, while highlighting the physical, psychological, and behavioural effects of emotional neglect. Common myths surrounding emotions were also addressed, emphasizing that all emotions are natural and that acknowledging and expressing them constructively is essential for maintaining emotional well-being.

The session further introduced practical strategies for emotional first-aid, including acknowledging feelings without judgment, expressing emotions constructively, deep breathing, grounding techniques, positive self-talk, meditation, and seeking professional support when needed. Participants were encouraged to develop healthy coping mechanisms, strengthen emotional resilience, and take proactive steps towards managing emotional distress. The workshop concluded by reinforcing that emotional wellness is an integral part of overall well-being and that recognizing emotional needs and seeking help when necessary are signs of self-awareness and strength.
